1st April 2019 | The National Living & Minimum Wage Rates have increased

From 1st April 2019, the National Living Wage and the National Minimum Wage rates are increasing.

The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour all workers under the age of 25 are entitled to by law. Workers must be at least the school leaving age which is 16 years old to get the National Minimum Wage.

The National Living Wage is the minimum pay per hour all workers aged 25 and over are entitled to by law.

It does not matter how small an employer is, they still have to pay the correct minimum wage to all their workers.

Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate of the National Minimum Wage if they are either:

  • Under 19
  • 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.

Apprentices whom are over the age of 19 and have completed the first year of their apprenticeship are entitled to the National Minimum Wage of their age.

For example, if you are 22 years old and have completed the first year of your apprenticeship, you are entitled to be paid £7.70 an hour from 1st April 2019.
