Reaching New Heights

We are very excited to be sharing our recent press release which will be in local media in the coming month. This follows our recent office move, success at the British Accountancy Awards and acquisition of Taylor Roberts:

From winning national awards, to doubling their office capacity, to their recent acquisition, it would be fair to say it’s been a very successful summer for the Milton Keynes-based accountants, Ad Valorem.

Ad Valorem were recently crowned “Independent Firm of the Year – South East”, at the prestigious British Accountancy Awards. The awards ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House, London Park Lane on 25th September 2019. Sponsored by Accountancy Age Jobs, the awards are recognised as the leading national awards in the accounting profession.

Ad Valorem were finalists in not one, but four categories, including “Best Employer”, for which the firm were ranked in the Top 10 in the UK. The award is judged on anonymous surveys taken by the employees, therefore it is no surprise that husband and wife team Nikki and Nigel Adams who are joint Managing Directors of Ad Valorem, were over the moon to receive such positive feedback from their team.

Being an accredited Top 10 employer means Ad Valorem attracts some great individuals, one of whom was a finalist in the Rising Star of the Year category for the second year running. At just 25, Alex Black is Ad Valorem’s youngest client manager. Commenting on Alex’s success, Nigel Adams: “Alex demonstrates great commercial awareness and has taken an advisory role with several clients, meeting them quarterly to monitor budgets and advise on growth. Alex now manages Ad Valorem’s R&D department, which provides services from HMRC design to incentivise businesses undertaking research and development. We have so far saved over £5.7m in corporation tax for our clients and have a 100% success rate.”

It was also a big night for Nigel himself, as he was nominated for “Partner of the Year”, in recognition for his outstanding contribution to his clients and the profession as a whole. Nigel set up Ad Valorem in 2001 with the concept of providing a high-quality, all-round business hub to small owner-managed businesses and entrepreneurs. From his experience in small and large accounting firms as well as from industry, Nigel leverages his own entrepreneurial skills to the benefit of his clients to provide practical, clear advice to businesses of varying age and size.

Nigel has always advocated a collaborative approach, even with local competitors, as he is passionate about providing strong commercial solutions that are badly needed in the SME sector for clients who can’t always afford, or don’t have access to sound financial advice from people they can trust.

Nigel didn’t come into accountancy an easy way. He didn’t excel academically at school and had no idea what he wanted to do when he left. It was after being profiled that his abilities were revealed, and accountancy was suggested as a career path. Nigel spent 11 years juggling full time employment and achieving his ACCA qualification.

This start has given Nigel experience in many different areas: running his own gardening business, working in small and large practices, and gaining international experience with a Russian-owned oil company. As an FCCA, Nigel’s passion for his work has been recognised by the ACCA (regulatory body) in their recent report on digital accountancy firms.

Ad Valorem didn’t have long to bask in their national recognition, as the week after, they moved from their office of 18 years in Newport Pagnell, to the spacious and tranquil surroundings of Manor Farm Court, Old Wolverton.

The move has doubled the office capacity for this growing company; expanding from a team of 21 to a team of 42 in the last 4 years alone. The majority of Ad Valorem’s growth has come from referrals from existing clients, but also from acquiring strategic partners, with the most recent being Taylor Roberts.

Taylor Roberts are an accountancy firm based in Waterlooville and Wingrave who have a diverse team of experienced accountants, with a great portfolio of owner-managed businesses, as well as a number of clients in the health and dental sector. The firms have been working closely over the past 12 months and with the teams coming together, the new strategic partnership provides a greater skill-set to their clients.
